Method 2: Use Photoshop
Select the affected lens area and use a layer mask to keep changes local. For small reflections, carefully clone nearby usable detail onto a separate layer. When an eye is hidden, a second photo of the same person can supply visible detail: align it, mask the useful area, and match its tone and lighting. Check the result at full size.
This takes manual judgment, particularly around frames and eyelids. See Adobe’s glasses glare editing guide for its tool workflow.
Method 3: Adjust Exposure and Highlights
For mild brightness or reflections that leave eye detail visible, use a local mask in Lightroom or another editor and reduce highlights or exposure gently. Avoid darkening the whole face just to treat one bright lens. See Adobe’s local adjustment controls.
These adjustments can reveal detail that was recorded in the image. They cannot recover an eye that is completely hidden and absent from the captured image data.
Why Severe Glasses Glare Is Hard to Fix
When reflections completely obscure the eyes, the original eye detail may not be recorded. AI may have to reconstruct it rather than recover it. A convincing result is not proof that the generated eyes match the person’s real appearance.
If you want to fix glasses reflections in a heavily affected photo, have a clear reference ready and review the result carefully.
When a Reference Photo Helps
A reference helps when glare covers important eye details. Use the same person, with clear eyes, a sharp face, little or no lens glare, and a similar head angle. It provides visual guidance without guaranteeing an exact reconstruction.

How to Prevent Glasses Glare When Taking Photos
- Change the angle between the light, glasses, and camera.
- Move away from direct flash or try an off-axis light.
- Slightly adjust the head or glasses angle while keeping the pose comfortable.
- Use softer light and check both lenses before taking the final photo.
For a photo you cannot retake, remove glasses glare online and compare the repaired version with the original before saving.
